Why I PMC
PMC 2024: Kermit Varners hit the dirt...
This year, I will be riding the PMC Gravel ride, to be held in late September in the Berkshires. This route will take us on a circuit through miles of unpaved backroads rather than the Sturbridge-to- Provincetown route of the traditional August PMC. What the Gravel Ride lacks in distance, it makes up for with hills and potholes and unpaved surfaces. As Hannah is on track to wrap up grad school in early September, she was reluctant to commit to the traditional route, and we wanted to do this together, so we're breaking out our gravel bikes and joining several other members of Team Kermit for a new kind of adventure! And, of course, our support crew (Wendy and Max) will be at the ready.
The goal remains the same: conquering cancer in all its many awful forms.
When I was initially diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in 2005, I was determined to hang in there against long odds until Hannah completed middle, and then high school. As my treatment progressed and my prognosis improved, I dreamed of making it to her college graduation. Now, years down the road from those milestones, Hannah is getting her PhD, and I am riding another PMC with her. Cancer research and treatment opened the door for this dream to come true. And it can do the same for our friends, our loved ones and for total strangers who now, or will, face the challenge of cancer. Please do what you can to help, and consider splitting your donation between Hannah and me. (Grad students and their friends don't have deep pockets. See: https://profile.unpaved.org/HV0006). As always, 100% of all money donated goes to the Dana Farber for cancer research and treatment.
Be well. And THANK YOU!!
