By now most of you know my story. In 1988 just a few days after graduating from South Shore Vo Tech in Hanover, MA, my friend John Berkeley, his dad Bob Berkeley, his uncle Jim Henneberry and I set out to California to start the 3,414 mile Cross Country for Cancer bike trip back to Massachusetts! It was Bob's way of thanking the Jimmy Fund for helping his family (John, youngest son Robbie and Bob himself) beat cancer and pay off the mounting bills. We finished the trip in 38 days Arriving home in Rockland, MA on August 6, 1988. The ride itself plus some other fundraising events based around this feat helped to raise over $20,000. This is all before cell phones and internet, too!
Since then, many years have gone by and many more lives have been taken by cancer, my dad, Steve Sr., being the closest one of them. Many friends and other family members have died but many more have survived and beat cancer!!
I am riding this last time on a new route, on a new bike (I gave my last bike away after finishing in Ptown, swearing I'd NEVER ride again!) but for the same reason. Doing what I can to help others overcome this vicious disease!
Please donate whatever you can, tell your friends about this and share my page. See if your company will match your donation! Some insurance companies will give you a discount on your car insurance with a donation to PMC (SN0101)!
Thanks for taking the time to read this far, LOVE YOU ALL!!!
I'm a proud participant in PMC Unpaved, an off-road cycling fundraiser to support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund. The inaugural PMC Unpaved - a spoke in the wheel of the Pan-Mass Challenge's yearly fundraising campaign - is October 1, 2022
This fall, I will be riding and fundraising to bring us Closer by the Mile to a cure for cancer. 100 percent of all rider-raised funds go directly to innovative cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber, one of the world's premier cancer centers dedicated to advancing cancer research and care.
Please help me reach my goal - every donation makes a difference.
